University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a computer-based test used by the consortium of ANZ Universities for admissions to their medical, dental and clinical degree programs.
The UCAT test does not contain any specific curriculum or science or maths content. The focus is on exploring the cognitive powers of students and other attributes considered to be valuable for health care professionals.
The universities of UCAT ANZ Consortium in Australia and New Zealand, select applicants with the most appropriate mental abilities, attitudes and professional behaviors required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers by considering the results of UCAT. The UCAT results are used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as the UCAT application, academic qualifications and medical interview.

UCAT test consists of five separately timed sections which each contain several questions in a multiple-choice format. Once the test starts, it cannot be paused for a break, however there is a timed instruction section prior to each section. - Questions with one correct answer are worth 1 mark.
- Questions with multiple answers (such as those in Decision Making) are worth 2 marks, with 1 mark awarded to partially correct responses.
- For incorrect answers, there is no negative marking in any of the sections.
- Performance on one item does not influence which other items are presented.
- Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning are marked on the number of correct answers.
- Raw scores of each section are converted to scale scores that share a common range from 300 to 900. A total scale score ranges from 1200 to 3600.
- In the Situational Judgement section, full marks are awarded for an item if the response matches the correct answer and partial marks awarded if the response is close to the correct answer.
- Situational Judgement test is a measure of non-cognitive attributes, it will be considered by universities in a different manner to the cognitive sections. Please refer to their websites for more details.
